University City FAQ’s

What Companies are involved with the construction of University City?
Knightsbridge Homes, Metropia, RioCan Management group and ITC Construction Group.

Will the construction workers be parking their vehicles on the streets, and filling up parking lots in the Brentwood Community?
No, we do not allow parking on site. Although we do not have parking for our construction workers, we encouraged them to take advantage of the park and rides and other forms of public transportation.

Will the immediate adjacent property have to worry about vibration caused by Pile Driving?
No, University City has invested more time and money into a concrete structured building that does not require Pile Driving. Our goal is to create the least amount of disruption as possible to the surrounding area.

Can a concrete pour be affected by the weather? If so can it affect the hours of operation?
Yes, the curing process can be affected by certain weather conditions, so it may take longer than expected. We can continue a concrete pour after hours in those cases,  we acquire the appropriate permits to continue after construction hours.

What are the hours that construction can take place?
Construction activity can happen between 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays and statutory holidays. We can acquire permits that may allow work to be done outside these time periods.

If there is construction garbage around the work site who is responsible for cleaning it up?
University City construction workers make an effort to scan the area daily, for construction related litter to be disposed of.

Who is responsible for executing lane, sidewalk closers and re-routing traffic if necessary?
The general contractor is responsible for the application of permits and the execution of the typical lane closers.

Will there be lights on the construction site at all times? If so will it cause a disruption for the surrounding area?
Yes, there will be lights on the construction site at all times for safety and security reasons. We will try minimizing the light disruption by pointing the lights directly on the construction site to ensure the least amount light pollution.

Will there be sufficient site signage posted in case I need to contact University City in an urgent situation?
Yes, there will be contact information posted on the gates of University City if you need to get in contact with the site liaison. 

 When will the concrete structure be completed? When will possession of the units take place?
We are expecting the concrete structures for Buildings 1 & 2, to be completed in early 2013. The anticipated the possession for Building 1 is to take place in fall 2013, and Building 2 is scheduled for winter of 2013. We plan on starting construction for Buildings 3,4, and 5, in the spring of 2013.

How high will the buildings be?
Buildings 1&2 are 19 storeys high, Buildings 3&4 are 12 storeys high and Building 5 is 4 stories high.

 What kind of retail space will be at University City?
The retail units will have a maximum size of approximately 6,000 sqf.

Yes, if they are less than 25 pounds.
